This pregnancy is flying by in comparison to my first. I guess that's just how it goes when you already have a little one on the outside to take care of! I'm 14 weeks and 3 days today and I'm finally starting to feel full of energy again. I can actually make it through my day without a nap or needing to sit down every 5 minutes. Hellllllo second trimester...I totally love you.
Today was my first appointment with the MFM (maternal fetal medicine) doctor who is basically a high risk specialist. Here is a picture of our little babes!
Though you can't tell in these pictures b/c they are zoomed in on each baby, Baby B is actually about a week smaller in size than Baby A. This has always been the case and is part of the reason I'm seeing a high risk doctor between visits with my regular OB...just for extra monitoring.
Baby B is our little fighter! When I was only 5 weeks along, we were told there was a small difference in size between the babies. However, as the weeks passed, Baby B continued to grow very slowly and way less than the doctors wanted to see as compared to his/her brother/sister who was growing right on track. For 3 weeks in a row, we were told that Baby B would likely stop growing due to the huge size discrepancy between the babies (which at one point was about a 12 day difference) and the fact that Baby B was a good 8-9 days behind where I was in my pregnancy. Then, at my 9 week appointment, as we prepared ourselves to hear that our Baby B was gone, we instead saw that Baby B was looking much bigger than it had in the weeks previous and nearly as large as Baby A! We were all shocked, including the nurse who measured Baby B SIX times! We left that appointment cautiously optimistic and held our breaths until the next visit. Well, as you can tell, Baby B has hung on and continued to grow, grow, grow! We are so happy about our little miracle baby and praising God for this special blessing He's allowed us to have. There's just no way we can't see the hand of God in this whole situation.
Both babies looked great today. We saw two fast beating hearts with great heart rates, 4 little legs, feet, hands and arms. We saw two perfect heads with growing brains. We saw fingers and toes and noes and eyes! They were both wiggling up a storm. It's really crazy to see TWO babies in there.
We were hoping that we might find out the genders today, but unfortunately, it's too early to make an official call or be sure of anything. Baby A definitely had something between it's little legs so the nurse is thinking boy and that's what it looked like to us, BUT she also said little girl parts can sometimes look like little boy parts in the early days when they're still forming. Baby B didn't have anything between it's legs so obviously we're all thinking girl, but again, it could just be too early to tell...especially because Baby B is a little bit small and behind where I am in pregnancy. So maybe there are boy parts still waiting to come out. So obviously, while we sort of have boy/girl twins on our minds now, we actually have NO idea and probably won't know for sure for another 2 weeks. Booo!
That's the update on little Gipson's #2 and #3. Little Gipson #1 is sleeping soundly in his bed now and just as cute as ever :)

We are so happy for You, Matt and B. Let us know if you need anything! This is exciting times and we are praying for ya'll!
ReplyDeleteI thought you said you weren't going to find out the sexes. Didn't you say that would be the best thing ever? Yes, I remember that was exactly what you said. Wouldn't want to go back on your word!
