a.k.a., the "real" party ;)
We celebrated Benjamin's birthday here at home on 1/7, just a few days before his actual birthday on 1/11. In planning his party, the one thing I was sure about was that I didn't want to do anything too fancy or extravagant. I told Matt that I had planned to do nothing more than cupcakes and invite only his family and maybe 2-3 of our close friends. Yeah, well, thanks to Pinterest and the many ideas I saw swirling around the page as I scrolled down, my "cupcakes only" party for Benjamin quickly turned into cupcakes, cookies and marshmallows...pretty much sweets galore! And of course, once you decide you're going to make all of that stuff, you have to come up with a color theme...and so blue, green and white it was! A quick trip to the store to pick up blue and green plates turned into me shopping for lanterns, streamers, and supplies to make a cupcake stand. Now let me say, all of the things that I had plans for were really simple little projects. Dipping marshmallows and pretzels, making sugar cookies, making a cupcake stand, hanging streamers and lanterns. Easy, right? Right...but, not so much when you wait until 8 p.m. on Friday night to start. Thanks to the help of my two sweet friends, Nancy and Sophie, we got it all done in time for the party to start at 11 a.m. the next morning. Oh, and you know that small guest list? Well, that changed too... a few invited guests quickly turned into maybe 20+ adults and a bunch of children. Oops! At least everyone had fun!
So this is the invitation that we sent...and check out the picture on the top right! He's holding up a one. Really couldn't have been more perfect.
Here's a pull back shot of his dessert table. Too bad the only thing he actually tasted was a cupcake...
OK, now on to the party pictures!
While most of the older kids made a fast dash to the dessert table...
...our boy was mainly interested in eating his Chickfila nuggets and cheese :)
Anabel and Collin both came over to celebrate...
Sweet Levi came...
Of course Landon came...
Judah and Elijah both took time out of their busy days to come...
Ariel came...
Our house pretty much looked like a daycare!
(Sorry if your little one was at the party and didn't make it on the blog...some were just too busy and too fast for me to capture!)
All the while, Benjamin was still interested in his food :)
Eventually though, he did get some play time in!
A note to Jason and Janelle...the present you gave B for Christmas was an absolute hit with all the little ones!
Next up, it was time for singing and cake...
...and since Benjamin had already had one party, he knew the drill!
Looks like he's excited!
Looks like someone who skipped his morning nap is starting to zone out...
A little more cake picked him right back up!
We absolutely LOVED celebrating our sweet guy! Twice! Can't wait until next year when he might actually start to understand that we're celebrating in honor of him! ;)
